The B’nai B’rith Senior affordable housing project is a new 110-unit, 92,409-square-foot, all-electric, Passive House–certified affordable housing development located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The six-story podium-style building is comprised entirely of one-bedroom residential units and is thoughtfully designed to support resident comfort, wellness, and community engagement. Interior amenity spaces include a music library, community room, media room, fitness center, and secure bicycle storage.
The project scope includes a comprehensive site redevelopment beginning with the demolition of an existing two-story office building and surface parking lot. The reimagined site will accommodate 110 parking spaces, three underground stormwater infiltration tanks, electric vehicle charging stations, and an elevated outdoor deck with grilling areas, all complemented by new planting and finished landscaping throughout the property.
Designed to meet rigorous Passive House performance standards, the building will feature centralized high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, energy recovery ventilation (ERVs), and centralized domestic hot water systems. Residential units will be finished with full kitchens, complete appliance packages, and durable quartz countertops. The exterior facade will be composed primarily of fiber cement panel and lap siding, accented with brick, aluminum composite material (ACM), and wood composite panels, creating a contemporary yet durable architectural expression well suited to its urban context.
